Every once in a while (well, who am I kidding, never sounds more like it), my husband and I have the opportunity to head out for a date night away from our children. As a busy homeschool homemaker, I rarely have time to get dressed in the morning, let alone schedule a sitter for a date night. I plan out our day using a block schedule to allow for a few minutes to collect my thoughts.

By the grace given to us from my parents, my husband and I were able to find time to travel with friends for a weekend getaway. Fourteen years past due! Given the current COVID restrictions, along with my husband’s work schedule, we decide to join our friends in exploring Colorado for a couple’s getaway.
Just in case we needed to quarantine, an executive decision led us to staying in an Airbnb. An Airbnb is the most comfortable option for both of our families during this time of uncertainty. We chose to stay in Denver because Denver is a central location for any local hiking destinations we had planned. Additionally, if we decided to head out of the city, our group is within an hour or so of Colorado’s best hikes near Denver.
The group consensus decision is, to keep it low-key during our time spent in Colorado giving us Texans two full days (and a half) to enjoy a stress-free couples vacation. At the time of our vacation, due to COVID, indoor activities were limited. Dinning in and hiking, which is what we like to do, walking and eating, of course, was all that was available.

South Mesa Trailhead is located in the city of Boulder Colorado. Mesa trail feeds into a number of connecting trails hikers, joggers or dog walkers can explore. We enjoyed walking for a short distance to participate in “leaf peeking” while collecting a few leaves to take home to the children.
Denver Walking Tours and Trails
If you prefer to stay within the city of Denver Colorado there are a number of Denver walking tours and local hiking trails to keep you occupied. The Air BnB we stayed in for our couple’s getaway, is located downtown Denver within walking distance of 16th Street Mall. Adjacent to a local walking trail encompassing a skate park.
I love visiting Colorado and I hope to one day return with our children and ski the beautiful snowy mountains of Breckenridge, go for a walk through downtown Aspen or take a mountain train ride and explore more of Colorado.
Until next time Colorado.
