What exactly is a homemaker?

By definition, a homemaker is a person who cares for and manages the needs of their home and family in a manner that creates a pleasant environment and place of value for their household. A homemaker’s role transcends the confines of the four walls of a home and every aspect of daily life with design, purpose, and intent.

While today’s homemaking is often associated with one-size-fits-all and non-traditional roles, I’m here to break through those misconceptions by reevaluating what it means to be a homemaker in the 21st century.

As for me, the role of a homemaker encompasses more than laundry and daily homemaking tasks but wears many unpaid and underappreciated hats individually put on; they read businesswomen, financial advisor, educator, driver, cook, maid, etc. Because we live in a modern world, being a homemaker transcends our home’s four walls and is an integral part of our identity and greater purpose.

Why am I a homeschooling homemaker?

I spent my earlier years working a traditional job, teaching elementary school students while investing in my husband’s education in the mists of starting a family.

Since I was little, I’ve always envisioned myself being a mom and homemaker, just like my mother. I come from a long line of pioneers, patriots, and homemakers. My mother instilled homemaker values into my everyday lifestyle from an early age, like her mother before her.

As homemaking roles evolve through the decades, our job as homemakers continues to remain the same as we care for and manage the needs of our family and home first and foremost. I learned from an early age; the best thing you can do for your family’s upbringing is to be a homemaker. I chose to use my role as a homemaker to provide value to my family, lifestyle, and relationships. I added homeschooling to my homemaking resume because living in today’s society requires patience and grace. No matter where our journey takes us as a family, I know we are rooted in faith, strong values, and virtues that sprout stability, strength, and togetherness.

All the little moments when it’s not supposed to matter, from having dinner ready on time to watching my children complete a task before being asked, is what gives me the most pride and satisfaction as a homemaker.

Meet our family

What is Homemaking Redefined all about?

Homemaking Redefined is a blog that celebrates traditional femininity in modern society. We believe the role of the homemaker is essential to building solid foundations for our children and families.

FYI

The life we design for our children is so important because they are our future. The day-to-day guidance, education, and nurturing of your children shape their behavior, happiness, and well-being both now and for years to come. It’s the little things that you think don’t count, count in the character-building process.

While being the CEO of my home may be the most formidable unpaid job out there, it is also the most fulfilling, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Bringing stability to my family and teaching my children values, and experiencing milestone moments, successes, and failures is a genuinely priceless job.

The takeaway.

I’m sharing all my homeschool tips and the lessons I’ve learned along the way so you can focus on homeschool success. I feel so privileged to get to be with my children every day and experience their life moments, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world! I can’t wait to share everything with you so you can do the same!

Be kind to yourself and remember.

While homeschooling may be challenging at first, hang in there because it’s a labor of love, and there is no better feeling than knowing you taught your child how to read or count or time manage. I’ve spent the last seven years homeschooling four children of various ages 11, 10, 9, and 3, and guess what? I made it out alive, and they are all thriving and enjoying learning. There is so much more that goes into homeschooling your children that meet the eye. Just remember, when all else fails, signal SOS for chocolates and bath salts.
